What is Ube?

Ube (Purple Yam) is a naturally purple root crop commonly found in the Philippines and used for Filipino desserts. It has a slightly sweet, nutty flavour that pairs nicely with cheese, pistachios, cream cheese, and chocolate.

Ube Halaya is a staple Filipino dessert traditionally made with fresh ube, milk, butter and sugar. It is deliciously creamy and comforting, and pairs well with breads (like our pandesals), cakes, and can even be eaten on its own as a dessert. At Purple Flour Hong Kong, we make our own ube halaya using fresh ube and other premium ingredients to create our signature version – our very own ube halaya with depth of flavour and balanced sweetness that you will find at the heart of our ube-filled pandesals and other ube-based desserts.
